Pilolo Ghana, a voluntary action group, which came to existence around 2015 has been doing extremely awesome over the years, it main aim is to engage young people to help develop their community by Identifying problems.
Pilolo Ghana has been able to successfully implemented a number of projects in the past in the areas of active citizenship, civil society strengthening, peace, development education and safety education (You can find more information about these projects here…)
On Friday, the 18th of May 2018, PILOLO GHANA is embarking on a new project dubbed “A DAY WITH
KIDS”.
#ADayWithKids is an event organized by Pilolo Ghana’s Education Youth wing and the purpose of this project is to “help children cultivate the habit of reading“.
Reading (as defined in Wikipedia and we all know), is a complex “cognitive process” of decoding symbols in order to construct or derive meaning (“reading a book” or “reading music”), or a form of obtaining information from devices such as sensors. Reading is a means of language acquisition, communication, and of sharing information and ideas.
It’s not an easy thing, learning to read. Learning to read is complex. Children don’t learn one reading-related skill and then move on to the next in a step-by-step process. Instead, they must develop competency in four areas simultaneously: word identification, comprehension, fluency, and motivation. They begin to develop these competencies by listening to books read aloud.
That’s one reason why it’s so important for children to have experiences with books before they enter kindergarten and then proceed to higher education. However, most children don’t learn to read independently until they receive formal instruction in school, which is why good reading instruction is so important.
Good reading programs such as #ADayWithKids will help balance or integrate both comprehension and decoding instruction in order to provide these kids with the experiences they need to learn to read.
This is a laudable project which is being organized under the theme “Impacting through reading“. It is the hope of Pilolo Ghana to have this project annually and your support, sponsorship and or donations will make this dream a reality.
First school or community to benefit from this project is Butumagyebu STMA Primary School with a total population of 182 pupils. Therefore the entire Pilolonians (volunteers) call on our support and participation to make this a success.
Please Note: You can support by donating your old story books or exercise books with the team or helping them raise canopies or even getting water for the volunteers who will sacrifice their time to help these children read few pages.
Reading is a basic asset, Let’s help our younger generation move up the ladder to greater height and on this note #teamKuulvibes is proud to endorse and support this noble project.
